Penrallt Baptist Church

Online Service: Sunday 29th March, 2020 (10:30am)

During this time when we are unable to meet together as usual due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are exploring alternative ways to share fellowship. This is the outline of a service to share in together at our computers (or phones, tablets etc.), starting at 10:30am on Sunday morning 29th March 2020, but you are also welcome to use it at other times. We suggest working your way down the page, reading out the prayers and playing the videos, singing along with the songs and following other directions given below. Words of songs and prayers that are not included as subtitles in videos are listed directly below them. We are still very new at this, so there may be some teething troubles so please be patient; after the service, constructive feedback would be welcome.

Introductory Song: New Every Morning

Welcome

Welcome to our online service for Sunday 29th March 2020. The worship leader this morning is James Goodman, assisted by Gill, and the preacher is Prof. Bob Woods. Towards the end of the service Bob will lead us in the celebration of communion. If you have not already done so, you may wish to pause now and fetch some bread and wine (or suitable substitutes) to be ready for the communion.

Call to Worship / Prayer

I bow before the Father who made me
I bow before the Son who saved me
I bow before the Spirit who guides me
In love and adoration
I give my lips
I give my heart
I give my mind
I give my strength
I bow and adore Thee
Sacred Three
The Ever One
The Trinity

Hymn: Holy, Holy, Holy

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee:
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who were, and are, and ever more shall be.

Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy, there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love and purity.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three Persons, blessèd Trinity!

Communion and intercessions

Final Song: Cornerstone

Final Prayers and Grace

Give to me O God:
A clear and watchful eye - A firm but gentle touch - A good receptive ear - A clear discerning taste - A subtle sense of smell - An openness to others - An awareness now of you - Each thing that is needful for my body - That which will renew my mind - That which will strengthen my spirit - Healing for my sickness - Repentence for my sin - Yourself above all else.

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
and the love of God
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with us all, evermore. Amen.

Post-Service Chat

We are hoping to have a Zoom chatroom available after the service this morning (at approximately 11:30am, for around half an hour) if you would like to join in a live chat. It should be possible to join by following this link while the chatroom is open. This is our first attempt at a live chat, so please be patient if there are technical difficulties.

Alternatively, we encourage you to contact other members of the congregation using your preferred communications technology, to see how they are doing and discuss your reflections on the service.

For a bit of light relief, here are some short outtakes that James and Gill have kindly provided from their video recordings:

This evening

The Baptist Union of Great Britain are intending to hold a short prayer broadcast every Sunday and Thursday evening at 7pm. The link for this evening's broadcast (and recordings of previous ones) should be available at this page on the Baptists Together website.

Post-script: Please help us improve

The necessity of holding online services has come upon us very suddenly and we are still figuring out what to do. You can help by providing us with constructive feedback. Let us know (by email to office@penrallt.org) what has worked well and what could be improved, preferably with practical suggestions for how.
