After a period of two years of pastoral vacancy we are now excited to have our new Minister, Rev. Freddy Farías-Palacios, with us since April 2017.
Of Ecuadorian origin, Freddy comes from a Baptist family, his father and grandfather both being Baptist ministers. As a young Christian he entered the Ecuadorian Navy in 1984. In 1990 he married Cecilia. In 1993 he went on to train in Texas and Philadelphia in the US and returned to Ecuador in 1994, when they both committed their lives to Christ fully. In 1996 he was ordained a deacon of the Esmirna Evangelical Baptist Church, Guayaquil, Ecuador and served as an English instructor in the Naval Technological centre there. Later on, in 2000, Freddy and his family arrived in London to work in the Embassy of Ecuador. He was asked to take charge of the worship and teaching of a small congregation in Alperton called Comunidad Cristiana Latina. The work there led him to relinquish his naval career in favour of full time ministry. In 2005 Freddy joined Spurgeon’s College to study for his degree and become an accredited Baptist minister. While still in training he was placed at Eastern Avenue Baptist Church, Essex where he continued to serve after his ordination in 2008. His ministry there saw significant growth in number but more importantly spiritually, attracting and engaging with a multi-racial, diverse congregation. The key to Freddy’s ministry is the love referred to in John 13:35.
A keen musician, Freddy plays the guitar and piano; enjoys working out in the gym, going ‘bargain hunting’ and family holidays. His move to Penrallt comes as a result of a ‘call’ from the Lord; while recognising it as a new challenge Freddy is excited to respond to God’s plan as it unfolds — both for his family and his congregation. Come and see — God is about to do new things!
Freddy is supported by a team of nine deacons, each with a specific area of responsibility, and Magnus, our Administrator.
Each of our deacons is elected by and from the church membership and is principally responsible for the oversight of one area of church life.
